The California State Capitol or “State House” under construction circa 1867

From 1868 to the early 1880's Capitol Park, which was bordered by L Street, N Street, 10th Street and 13th Street, was surrounded by a low wood picket fence.

The south pavilion entrance to the State Capitol today houses a security team responsible for screening visitors and staff entering the building.
