John W. Wilcox

John W. Wilcox John Wesley Wilcox was a native of Kentucky. An early resident of Mariposa County he served in the California State Assembly during the 1860’s and 1870’s. During his tenure in the Legislature he was given the moniker “The Mariposa Blacksmith”. In the early 1880’s he moved to San Francisco where he held a position with the State Harbor Commission. Mr. Wilcox was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate in 1887.

John W. Wilcox served as Senate Chief Sergeant-at-Arms from 1887 to 1889.
